You Have to See Laureen Uy's DIY Blunt Bob Haircut at Home

Those with short hair can attest to the difficulty of maintaining their locks at home during quarantine. Although some salons have reopened, given the risks involved, it’s still nice to learn how to do things yourself if staying at home makes you feel safer. Thankfully, Laureen Uy recently shared her own experience of trimming her hair at home, and it looks easier than we imagined. Here’s a complete guide on her DIY haircut:

Step 1: Make sure it’s styled the usual way.

Prep your hair before the cut into how you typically wear it, whether that’s air dried, blow-dried, straightened, or wavy. Laureen says that hers is a “post-shower blowdry.”

Step 2: Decide on a length by using your “neck wrinkles” as a guide.

Laureen says that she likes to keep her hair length below the ear and above the shoulders. To achieve this, she used her “neck wrinkles” (those lines on your neck) as her basis.

Step 3: Part your hair in the middle.

To make sure your hair ends up straight and even, part it in the middle and tie both
partswith an elastic (like pigtails). Make sure your elastic has a strong grip so that
it won’t budge while you cut. You wouldn’t want to end up with uneven hair!
A tip: If you want the front part of your bob to be slightly longer than the
back, tuck your hair behind your ears.

Step 4: Adjust the elastic.

Make sure both pigtails are equal and adjust the elastic to your
desired hair length.

Step 5: Snip, snip, snip!

Step 6: Put your hair in a half top bun and trim the excess ends.

After chopping off your hair, remove the elastics and assess your work to see which parts need touching up. Then, place your hair in a half top bun so you could trim the uneven parts. “Start with the bottom so that once you put the other layer down, you can really see if they’re equal,” Laureen says. Texturize your hair by holding the scissors slightly upwards and lightly snip the ends.

Step 7: Release a bit of hair from the half top bun.

Releasing a bit of the half top bun will reveal the middle layer of your hair. Repeat Step 6 and use the first, innermost layer as your basis, and texturize afterwards. Then, release the half top bun altogether and do the same!

Step 8: Assess your work one last time and trim parts to make your hair even. Texturize parts that are too blunt for you.

Et voila! That’s Laureen’s easy process to achieve a blunt bob at home. To cop her exact look, put sea salt spray on your locks and scrunch it up.
